Our Top 5 Recent Film Releases

A little idea I had for my blog is to create a segment where myself and my boyfriend write a little about a passion of ours. Films! Our first date, over a year ago now, was to our local cinema to see London Has Fallen. Since then we invest £17.99 a month in an Odeon Limitless membership. This is a fantastic idea as one trip to the cinema was costing us £10 each and seeing as we usually go at least once a week, that equates to at least £40 a month! So, we’re saving over £20 a month, and having a lovely date night every week!

So, as of now we’ve seen over 35 films since we started our membership in September of 2016.  Which is quite a lot I think! The end of 2016 saw some absolutely fantastic films, me and Luke cleverly have documented all films we’ve seen the past year, written them all down in our scrapbook and given them a rating out of 10! We’ve had long in depth conversations about every film and decided to share it with the internet. Here is our top 5 must see’s (most from the end of 2016 which will most probably be available on DVD soon, and of course online)

The Accountant

Ratings: Tiff+Luke 10/10 // IMDb 7.4/10 // Rotten Tomatoes 52%

Stars: Ben Afflick,  Anna Kendrick,  J.K. Simmons

Director: Gavin O’Connor

IMDb description : “As a math savant uncooks the books for a new client, the Treasury Department closes in on his activities and the body count starts to rise.”

Our opinion: We cannot quite understand why the reviews are not incredible for this movie! An original story line with huge plot twists! This is definitely the film we cannot recommend enough from this list. It is now available on DVD and Blu-ray!

John Wick Chapter 2

Ratings: Tiff+Luke 9.5/10 // IMDb 8.1/10 // Rotten Tomatoes 90%

Stars: Keanu Reeves,  Riccardo Scamarcio,  Ian McShane

Director: Chad Stahelski

IMDb Description: “After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.”

Our opinion: One of the best action movies ever made. This film has an insane amount of combat choreography, world class stunts (all completed by Keanu Reeves himself, no stunt doubles!!) and jaw dropping visual effects. The Boogey Man has been woken!

Spider-Man Homecoming

Ratings: Tiff+Luke 9.2/10 // IMDb 8/10 // Rotten Tomatoes 92%

Stars:  Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr.

Director: Jon Watts

IMDb Description: Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in New York City while fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man when a new threat emerges.

Our opinion: A brand new take on the classic Spiderman story, Tom Holland portrays the geeky, young and ambitious Peter Parker perfectly. This new adaptation adds a 21st century feel with high-tech technology from Iron Man himself. This is one film you do not want to miss this summer!

Ratings: Tiff+Luke 8.5/10 // IMDb 7.5/10 // Rotten Tomatoes 85%

Stars: Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney

Director: Clint Eastwood

IMDb Description: The story of Chesley Sullenberger, an American pilot who became a hero after landing his damaged plane on the Hudson River in order to save the flight’s passengers and crew.

Our opinion: An eye opening insight into one of the most controversial heroic acts of the 21st century. An Oscar nominated masterpiece which will make you appreciate the pressure human nature is under when lives are at stake.

Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates

Ratings: Tiff+Luke 7.6/10 // IMDb 6/10 // Rotten Tomatoes 35%

Stars: Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick

IMDb Description: Two hard-partying brothers place an online ad to find the perfect dates for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves out-hustled by an uncontrollable duo.

Our opinion: The duo of Zac Efron and Adam Devine is very comical, we personally love Zac Efron’s cheesy comedy! This film includes the usual comedy gags but has some fantastic scenes which had us in stitches!

Thanks for reading this new post, hopefully you’ve enjoyed it as Luke and I, we love our movies and would love to share more reviews.

Lots of love
